COVER LETTER

June 23, 2008

Dearly Beloved:

THE JOY OF THE LORD IS OUR STRENGTH.

Trusting in God is as vital as breathing. We cannot survive what is ahead if we do not fully trust our very lives to the Lord's loving care. If you tell me you trust God, then I must ask you: Is it a fixed trust?

In Psalm 112:7, David says the person who has a fixed trust in the Lord shall not be afraid of bad news. Fixed here in Hebrew is “settled,” meaning grounded solidly on God's promises.

In Psalm 31:13, David spoke of fear on every side and of evil being devised on his left and right. Yet, in such a time of crisis, David could shout, “But I trusted in thee, O Lord: I said, Thou art my God” (31:14).

“Oh how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee; which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men. Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy presence from the pride of man: thou shalt keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues” (31:19–20).

The only source of spiritual strength in these chaotic times is the eternal Word of God. Indeed, we must live by every word that proceeds from his mouth. Below are some of the promises that help to anchor my trust in the Lord:

  • Psalm 32:7, 8, 10. David said God was his hiding place and would preserve him from all trouble, surrounding him with songs of deliverance. The Lord would instruct him and teach him which way to go, his eye upon him to guide him. David also said the wicked would be shaken with sorrows, but mercy would surround those who trust the Lord.
  • Psalm 34:4–22. David speaks eloquently about the blessings of a fixed trust in God: deliverance from all fears…being saved out of all troubles…having an angel of protection… God's eyes and ears open to our cries…his nearness in times of testing. David closes with these triumphant words: “None of those that trust him shall be desolate.”
  • Psalm 84:12. “Blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.”

A closing word: I started out 55 years ago ministering to gangs, alcoholics and addicts. Then, over the years, our ministry expanded to help orphanages, widows, feeding programs and the homeless worldwide. Never has God failed to meet all our needs. We continue to endeavor to practice what we preach, trusting him to finance all he has mandated us to do for his kingdom. Thanks to all who share in this needy work.

In Christ,
DAVID WILKERSON
