10/13/2008 — Christopher R. WiggintonA charitable organization established by a Finnish woman received the President’s Export Award. Caring Hands was established by a Fida International missionary, a Finnish-Canadian woman named Milla Happonen. The paper jewelry Caring Hands produces bring self esteem and creates a source of income for HIV positive women. The award was presented by Uganda’s president, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Friday, October 3, 2008 in Kampala.

We have been fostering relationships with many of the locals through the Pentecostal Church of Uganda (PCU).

FIDA International: Lira, Kampala, Uganda, Finland
FIDA International coordinates the world-wide missionary work of the Finnish Pentecostal Church. This organization has 437 missionaries in 48 countries (2005). They focus on the areas of missions work, humanitarian aid, and community development. Their ministries comprise evangelizing and establishing churches, Bible studies for national workers, missions training for missionary candidates in Finland, ministry among Jews and Muslims, ministry among children, and youth work.
Caring Hands: Kampala, Uganda
Caring Hands is made up of volunteers who assist neighborhood Kampala families living in poverty, giving them new hope for the future. Their goal is to break the cycle of poverty in families in the community.

For the past twenty years, a large population of northern Uganda has endured tremendous suffering at the hands of warring guerillas. Abduction of children and teens still occurs, and the torture of real or perceived enemies remains constant.
